The
Academy Awards' red carpet is the world's biggest runway. During this
one-night event we cherish the magic of Hollywood, from the art of
the silver screen, up to the wonders of Haute Couture. The attire of
nearly every nominee can make or break a designer's reputation, so
it's no secret that celebrities and their stylists share the thrill
of choosing the most phenomenal and original outfits.
It is a long evening of red carpet analysis, but some actresses made it worth a wait. Whether bold or subtle it seems that this year winners are classic, elegant and feminine. White, red and black rule
the evening's colour palette and there are plenty of waist-defining
details. Daria
Piotrowicz points some of the top fashion highlights from the Oscar
ceremony.
One
of the most phenonenal stars of gala was a definite Gwyneth
Paltrow whose sharply tailored, modern, white Tom Ford gown with
removable cape detail was a total knockout without any need for
elaborate frills, jewels, bells or whistles. Her simple, but very
showy dress emphasized her silhouette and made it stand out against
other richly decorated creations. “Gwyneth Paltrow brings new
meaning to ‘Caped Crusader'”, tweeted @StuartEmmrichNY.
Sticking
to her slightly gothy roots, Angelina Jolie wore a black velvet
Versace gown with a high slit. That slit, though, became one of the
evening’s biggest punch lines, as Jolie repeatedly
struck a bold pose, with her hand on her hip and her right leg
sticking out of the gown. After she presented the award for best
screenwriter, winner Jim Rash emulated it
-
and someone created a Twitter account for it. Yes, @AngiesRightLeg
has already amassed more than 11,000 followers since last night,
based on such tweets as: “I’m a leg!,” “Don’t forget about
the leg!” and “You have to admit, I’m one hell of a leg.”
Another beautiful design was presented by Penelope Cruz, who floated down the red carpet wearing Giorgio Armani off-the-shoulder evening gown in a stormy blue-gray hue.
Emma Stone,
proving her sense of style is wiser beyond her years, wore an
elegant, yet unpretentious dress from Giambattista Vali. Deep red
colour of the dress emphasized her alabaster complexion, meanwhile
the airness of the material brought the lightness to the look. An
interesting bow, formed on the side of the neck and Louis Vuitton
handbag added extra glow.
Natalie
Portman chose a vintage Christan Dior gown. This red, dotted dress
depicts all the essentials of the coming season trends: 50s & 60s
inspiration, elegance, sweetness and girlishness.
Altogether a very glamorous evening.
